Type Fight | I love concept and range of lettering styles found in the Type Fight project. The Type Fight is a project run by designers Drew Roperand and Ryan Paule in which the duo (and sometimes guests) design the same letter and pin them against each other in the typographic ring to battle it out for best looking character.

swissted | I am fascinated by the typography, shapes and color combinations in Mike Joyce’s project swissted. The project takes vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers and redesigns them to international typographic style posters. Mike Joyce is a graphic designer based in New York. He is the founder of Stereotype Design studio and teaches at SVA.

swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer mike joyce, owner of stereotype design in new york city. drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have absolutely nothing to do with one another, mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. each design is set in berthold akzidenz grotesk medium, all lowercase. many of these posters are now available for sale in three different sizes at print-process. every single one of these shows actually happened.

Cartlidge Levene | The signage and labeling of an exhibition are a build or break. In the case of the Ceramics Galleries at the Victoria & Albert Museum created by Cartlidge Levene we are talking about a spectacular build. The thoughtful and beautifully crafted labeling and signage are created with great respect to the gallery and the art exhibited and create an harmonies tale. Cartlidge Levene is a design studio, founded by Ian Cartlidge & Adam Levene, based in London, UK. The studio specializes in identity, way-finding and signage and has created works for the Barbican Centre, Guardian News and Media, Selfridges & Co, Tate Modern and Dyson.

The V&A’s ceramics collections are one of its greatest glories and unrivalled in the world… The display presents over 3,000 objects which tell the story of ceramics, from the earliest Chinese pottery to contemporary ceramic art. We designed the gallery identity and interpretation graphics, working closely with architects Stanton Williams and the V&A curatorial team…The labels are printed onto magnetic substrate which carefully integrates with the display cases. Large scale graphics, such as dates, are painted directly onto wall surfaces to provide narrative and aid navigation. Relief letters are inlaid into the ceiling cornicing listing the rich vocabulary of the ceramic process.

Foundry Co | I love the modern look of Urban Wineworks wine labels created by Foundry Co. Although the labeling has strong vintage elements the final result is a fresh and modern. The logo is clever and wonderfully finished, the typography is beautifully crafted and the compositions are bold. Foundry Co is a creative branding agency, founded by Paul Wilkes and Scott Hill, based in Oklahoma City, Denver, Colorado and Dallas, Texas. They specialize in branding, illustration and web design.

We love the utilitarian look of the industrial era and the functional design that came with it. Those were hard times and designers back then took a little extra time to dress things up using banners, flourishes, etc…I think those types of visuals and the era from which they came will always be our main inspiration.

Pepper & Cinnamon | Pepper & Cinnamon is a graphic design studio run by Benjamin Koh Ju Ren, based in Singapore. Benjamin holds a BA in design communication from LASALLE’s. He specializes on a broad range including branding, identity, packaging, photography, print design, product design, typography and web design. The images above are from the design of TERROIR Magazine. The layout and photographs in the magazine are beautiful and are matched with simple and perfect typography and an elegant stitched binding.

Growing up in safe and sheltered Singapore where everything runs like clockwork, even the slightest bit of haphazardness and spontaneity when exploring foreign lands might seem strangely attractive and romantic. Roughly translating to mean “a sense of place” in French, Terroir is a bespoke bi-annual magazine that seeks to collaborate with and showcase Singaporean perspectives on travel—to share with you what various places meant to their Singaporean authors.

Studio Hinrichs | Studio Hinrichs is a design studio founded by Kit Hinrichs based in San Francisco, CA. The studio specializes in corporate communications, brand identity, promotion, publishing (books and magazines), packaging, interactive and environmental systems. Their impressive client list includes the California Academy of Sciences, USC, AIGA, Zagat, Stanford Law School and NapaStyle. The images above are from the 365 Typography Calendar. Each edition features 12 unique typefaces, with brief descriptive text about what makes the font distinctive, and a biography of each type designer. I love the concept of this calendar and typography here as expected is beautiful featuring lovely unique fonts.

Now celebrating its 11th year, the 2012 edition features a combination of original, not commercially available typefaces, and quirky fonts designed to reflect technological changes, pop culture, famous landmarks and famous people. All were drawn by well-known contemporary typographers, designers and artists, such as Michael Schwab, René Knip, Zuzana Licko and Ward Schumaker.

Paperlux | Paperlux is a design studio based Hamburg, Germany. The studio specializes in design, typography and paper etching with a unique method that creates three-dimensional etchings, without damaging the reverse side of the paper. The images above are from a magnificent cover they created for Novum 11/11. I would love to get my hands on a copy to play around with- the elasticity of the cover is fantastic, the colors and the pattern are stunning.

For the cover of the November issue we and our cooperation partners have pulled out all the stops to produce something very special. In 48,000 passes and with 140 extremely detailed die cuts per magazine, we created six differently coloured versions of the cover, without exposing the plates again each time. The result is a metamorphosis of paper, inspired by the one and only Richard Buckminster Fuller.

Werner Design | Werner Design is an award winning design studio run by Sharon Werner & Sarah Forss,  based in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Their client list includes AIGA, Chronicle books, Mohawk paper company, Target and Nike at Night. The images above are from their project Alphabeasties and it’s extensions- activity book, stuffed animals and flashcards. This project is lovely taking readers on a journey with the alphabet the providing surprises and smart solutions to explore the alphabet in a number of levels.

“…this typographical trip will wow design fans and suggest creative projects with letterforms. The book s introduction speaks affectionately of typefaces just like people, they look different and have different personalities before embarking on a thrilling spin through the alphabet. The first spread presents an alligator silhouette, made up of capital and lowercase As, as the repeated word algae forms green strands around it… Werner and Forss, a debuting team of graphic designers, devote page borders to extra wordplay: a C becomes the curved back and tail of a cat, a K s extended foot kicks a soccer ball, a cursive L is a lasso and rounded Ps nestle in a pod…”

Albert Ibanyez | Albert Ibanyez is a graphic designer based in Barcelona, Spain. He hoald a degree in design fromEscola Superior Elisava, Barcelona and a BA in design from the Winchester School of Art, Southampton, UK. The images above are from a magazine design for fontag magazine. I find the typography in this project fascinating and full of precise details. The clean black and white photographs and the touch of color on the magazine cover and beautiful, the different color shades created by the typography are memorizing and are highlighted by the grid layout.
